UX Chat with Shain McAlindon, Design Lead at BT, on UX & Design Leadership
Welcome to #UXchat with Shain McAlindon, Design Lead at BT, in this Twitter discussion on UX and design leadership.
For those who are new to #UXchat – it’s our one-hour live Twitter discussion (via the #uxchat Twitter hashtag) where you can rub virtual shoulders with some of the most knowledgeable UXperts on the planet and discuss a different UX topic every week.
This week’s topic: UX / Design Leadership
Our esteemed host: Shain McAlindon, Design Lead at BT
During his career, he’s had the privilege of working for several large and highly profitable organisations within the retail and telecommunications sectors.
With over 12 years experience designing digital products, he has worked through the full design process, from strategy, research and architecture to usability testing and visual design. He currently works as a design lead at BT.
He enjoys (in no particular order) football, golf, reading, gym, fashion, continually changing hair and facial hair, playing guitar, spending time with his wife and daughter, hiking, walks with his dog and catching up with friends.
You can connect with Shain via Twitter: @shainmcalindon
This week, Shain and our UX community discussed the following subjects:
- What’s the difference between leadership and management?
- What makes a great UX/design leader? Can you share real life examples?
- Does your current environment offer clear guidance and progression into UX/design leadership?

NEW GUEST HOSTS & TOPICS EVERY WEEK!
Every week, we have a new guest host, sharing their knowledge and experience about a particular UX topic. If you want to guest host (or know anyone who’d love to) give us a shout out on Twitter @betterUX_
When he’s not searching for the perfect hashtag or emoji, he trawls the web for the next guest host of UX Chat on Twitter or AMA on Slack. He loves to keep his finger on the pulse of the online UX community, and his passion and knowledge of UX has grown that if UX Marketer were a job title, he’d happily own that.
